One of New Zealand’s popular entertainers, Suzanne Lynch, is coming to Cardrona and Earnscleugh next week to perform with folk singer and composer Graham Wardrop and jazz pianist and singer Lizzie Braggins.

The newly formed trio, based in Christchurch, represents decades of musical expertise and is touring the South Island during March.

Lynch and her sister, Judy Hyndman, were founders of The Chicks, a 1960s duo that took the country by storm and won many music awards over the years.

"We will be singing popular songs, more of an acoustic thing. We are not a rock band," Wardrop said.

"Suzie will sing a couple of Cat Stevens songs because she toured the world with Cat Stevens for five years ... Liz will do an item or two ... [she] is more in the jazz spot than the popular spot. I will be perform a couple of songs of my own, including The Dunstan. I have been told that it is obligatory."

"Whenever I play in Otago, The Dunstan gets requested. It is just lovely to play that song when I am in the area. I love that area, I spent a lot of time there and my grandfather had an orchard there," Wardrop said.

"I wrote that song a long time ago, in 1995 or so, and I have been playing it all over the planet, actually."

Cardrona Hall, March 20, 7.30pm, Earnscleugh Hall, March 21, 7.30pm. Tickets $30, at the door (cash only) or at Pembroke Wine and Spirits.
