The plight of an Alexandra woman who believed she had lost her $500 Christmas money brought out the best in people, she said.
Her story had a happy ending, as she discovered the automatic teller machine had reclaimed the $500 she withdrew from the machine earlier this week and credited it back to her account.
She felt unwell carrying out the transaction and failed to collect her cash.
Later, she thought someone had picked up the "windfall".
She hoped someone would come forward and return the money.
After publicity about her plight, a Lake Roxburgh man offered to replace the $500.
"I just want to express my thanks to all those people who showed me kindness and support when I was so upset.
"It's good to know people care," she said.
The Roxburgh Good Samaritan said this week he had won a substantial sum of money in a casino a few years ago and invested it, donating the proceeds since then to various good causes.
