Central Otago police have released a new image of missing Alexandra man Christopher Bates and reminded people to remain vigilant as the search for him continues.

The new image, which shows the 22-year-old leaving a service station in Alexandra on the afternoon of Sunday, February 11, was from the same CCTV camera, day and time as the first image police released.

Police spokesman Constable Daniel Andrew said it was important to note the trousers in the new image appeared purple in the photo, but were not, and were just a dark colour.

Mr Bates is described as being of slim build, about 180cm tall, with short to medium length brown hair and brown eyes.

He has not been seen since February 11 and police and Land Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have spent days conducting a massive search for him.

Specialist dogs and a drone have also been used.

Const Andrew said additional search dog teams were on their way to Alexandra from Christchurch at present to assist with today's search.

Alexandra urban and rural residents are being asked to search their properties, including any sheds or outbuildings, and keep their "eyes and ears" out for anything unusual in river or hill areas.

Const Andrew thanked the public for their support so far and urged anyone with any information or sightings to contact police on (03) 440-2500.

Businesses are also being asked to review their CCTV footage, particularly from Sunday, February 11 and Monday, February 12.

People in Dunedin are also being asked to look out for Mr Bates, in case he had travelled there by public transport.

Mr Bates' family has printed 2500 pamphlets asking for knowledge of his whereabouts and they were being distributed in Alexandra and Clyde, including with a community newspaper today.
