No decision on vacancy

The Vincent Community Board will make a decision next month whether to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of board member Stu Millis.

The local government election will be held on October 8 and Central Otago District Council chief executive Leanne Mash said within a year of the election, the board had the choice of either leaving the seat vacant or appointing someone to fill the vacancy.

The board would make a decision on the matter at its next meeting on May 25, she said. Mr Millis resigned on Sunday , saying he had ‘‘had enough'' of local government and citing concerns about the district mayor and board chairwoman.

Mr Millis (56) was in his first term on the board and represented the Earnscleugh-Manuherikia ward. In his emailed resignation, Mr Millis said as it was close to the election, he thought there would not be a byelection and so ratepayers would not incur any costs by his resignation.
