Person airlifted from Lindis Pass crash

A seriously-injured motorist was flown to Dunedin Hospital by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter after a solo vehicle crash on the Lindis Pass-Tarras Rd this evening.

Tarras volunteer firefighters, police and St John Ambulance staff attended the crash, in which a car rolled on to its side at the Cluden Hill Summit, about 9kms from Tarras.

Emergency services were alerted about 5.14pm and the injured person was apparently the driver and sole occupant.

A police spokesman said the road was initially briefly blocked, including by scattered debris, after the crash and, later, part of the road, which is also State Highway 8, was closed to enable the helicopter to land there.
