An intelligence analyst will be based at Alexandra's police station for the first time, to look at crash and crime trends in Central Otago.
New Zealand Police southern district communications manager Vivien Pullar said the need for an intelligence analyst in the district was first identified at the start of this year.
"The position was created about six months ago.
In general terms, the role is to provide information in relation to crash and crime trends in the region."
She said specific details of the role could not be made public.
Constable Liz Williams is due to start in the position at the end of this month, when she moves from Palmerston North to Central Otago with her husband, fellow police officer Sergeant Mike Williams.
The couple's move to Central Otago will coincide with other policing changesin the district.
Central Otago sub-area commander Senior Sergeant Jill Woods, who has been based at Cromwell, will move to Alexandra, as initially intended.
Snr Sgt Woods was kept in charge of the Cromwell station while a vacancy for a sergeant in the town was advertised.
The Cromwell vacancy was created when Snr Sgt Woods was promoted to sub-area commander earlier this year.
The vacancy will be filled by Sgt Williams at the end of the month.
Also new at the Cromwell police station is Constable John Makin, who started as an additional frontline officer in the town on June 1.
Const Makin moved from Auckland and is one of five frontline officers now based at Cromwell.
When Sgt Williams starts as the station's leader on July 27, there will be eight police officers based in the town.
Alexandra also has five frontline officers, as well as at least nine others in various roles.
Snr Sgt Woods and Const Williams will bring the Alexandra tally to almost 20.
At Roxburgh, Constable Jape Wanoa, who has been temporarily sole-charge, will be joined by Constable Roger Mattson, who starts at the Teviot Valley station on Monday.
Constable Mattson moved from Auckland for the position, which was vacated when former Roxburgh officer Constable Craig Bennett moved to Kurow earlier this year.
Sole officers Senior Constable Steve Burke and Senior Constable Fred Aplin continue to staff the Ranfurly and Omakau police stations, respectively.
