Efforts to return the Lauder Railway Station to its original location beside the Otago Central Rail Trail continue to chug along.
Lauder Beautification Society member Ralph Milne said the society hoped an application to the Central Lakes Trust for $50,000, half the money needed to restore and move the station, would be approved, as the society continued to raise funds.
The group had already raised about $12,000, which was a ''pretty major effort for a community of 10 people''.
Donations also came from the Lauder Ukulele Festival committee, as well as money being raised through donation boxes and fundraising projects.
Closed down in 1985, the railway station once stood next to the now-closed Otago Central Railway, along which the Otago Central Rail Trail runs, from 1904 until 1990.
The building was given to the community this year and at present sits on private property just off the Lauder-Omakau road.
Ideas for the building once it had been restored included a museum or space for community use.
The building is not heritage listed.
