'Rawhide' ball a real shindig

Saturday night's Ida Valley Rawhide Fundraiser Ball at Poolburn has generated between $5000 and $6000 for an upgrade of the Poolburn-Moa Creek Memorial Hall kitchen.

About 135 people donned a variety of Western garb for the ball, which is organised every two years by the Ida Valley ball committee.

This year's Rawhide theme attracted country folk from throughout Central Otago as well as city slickers from Dunedin.

Committee member Bridget Hodge, of Poolburn, said almost all the ticket were sold and the evening went smoothly.

People started gathering in the memorial hall at Poolburn from 7pm.

Final drinks were served at 2am.

A band played from 8pm to 1am, making sure the event was a success, Miss Hodge said.

This year, money would be used to upgrade the kitchen joinery.
