South Island stuns in time-lapse video

The wintry beauty of the South Island has been captured in a stunning time-lapse video from a Cromwell-based photographer.

The video, put together by the appropriately named Stephen Patience, is a collection of clips he’s gathered over the over the past two autumns and winters, mostly from around Central Otago, with a few from Mackenzie, South Canterbury and the West Coast.

Stephen, who has won awards in NZ Geographic competitions, said a certain amount of planning was involved to ensure getting to specific locations in the right weather conditions. Often, that meant hiking in and camping overnight.

The music in the video was produced by Wellington composer Rhian Sheehan.

To fund his hobby, Stephen works at the Otago Regional Council "to ensure the Queenstown public transport buses operates as they should".
