A person has died after a workplace incident on an apple orchard near Alexandra yesterday.

Police said they were called to a property in Conroys Rd at 12.05pm.

The matter has been referred to WorkSafe and the coroner.

A spokesman for the Toi Toi Orchards confirmed a "tragic accident'' had occurred at the commercial premises.

Owners of the apple-growing business were unavailable for comment yesterday; however, a statement would follow, the spokesman said.

Stuff reported the person had been cleaning a sprayer when the incident occurred.

A WorkSafe spokesman said it was making initial inquiries to establish what the next steps might be.
