Gemma McGrath, who is the World Wildlife Fund's New Zealand Hector's Dolphin community co-ordinator, has rallied support in and around the Cromwell basin for the endangered marine mammals.
She has a long involvement with the WWF and was appointed to the job in February.
Since then she has embarked on her largest fundraiser for dolphins, producing a specialty wine which will go on sale in September.
Ms McGrath jumped at the opportunity to use three tonnes of Tarras and Bannockburn grapes which were not going to be harvested this year.
She and volunteers picked the grapes, after which local wine makers and producers crafted a special blend, which was bottled, labelled, and packaged for free.
Message in a Bottle Pinot Gris 2009 is the result.
Ms McGrath was already taking pre-sale orders for the 1800 bottles available.
She said it was amazing how much time, energy, and talent people volunteered throughout the process, and held a thank-you party for those involved last weekend.
Guest speakers at the event - held at the Bannockburn pub where Ms McGrath works part-time - included WWF New Zealand fundraising manager Selar Henderson and dolphin scientist Liz Slooten, the associate professor of zoology at the University of Otago.
The wine will officially be launched at Olssens Garden Vineyard in Bannockburn on September 19.
