Woman posed as 'council employee'

Police are urging Central Otago residents to come forward with information after a woman was found posing as a ''council employee'' earlier this month.

A police spokeswoman confirmed they had received reports of a woman taking photographs on a property in Lauder Flat Rd, near Becks, on July 3.

''Police conducted area inquiries and would urge anyone with any information to come forward.''

A concerned Alexandra resident alerted tradesmen in the area over social media after their new build was targeted.

The resident, who preferred not to be named when contacted by the Otago Daily Times, said residents ''needed to be vigilant''.

Central Otago District Council chief executive Sanchia Jacobs said all council staff visiting building sites would have identification and be able to verify through the organisation that they were employed there.
