Eight young bowlers to NZ champs

The best of Otago's young indoor bowlers are heading to Wellington at the weekend to compete for national glory.

Kelsey de Koning (Central Otago), Danielle Hoult (Otago) and Tony Johnston (South Otago) are among 30 of the country's finest young players who have qualified for the New Zealand indoor bowls junior singles competition this Saturday.

To qualify, players must have been under 18 years of age on March 1 this year, and have won their district junior singles competition.

At the end of the event, selectors will choose northern and southern zone teams.

Four Roxburgh Area School pupils and a Blue Mountain College pupil are the Otago representatives at the inaugural New Zealand secondary schools indoor bowls championships in Wellington this Sunday and Monday.

Aleisha Davidson, Alex Pasco, Matthew Frame and Sarah Davidson from Roxburgh will compete, along with Blue Mountain's Tony Johnston.
