Iris Edwards, the oldest resident of Kimberley Rest Home in Palmerston, has been sewing for 60 years. She recently finished her latest quilt, which she sewed in just over nine weeks.

Mrs Edwards (95), of Palmerston, has ‘‘sewed everything'', including children's clothes and quilts.

She started sewing when her children were young - her mother would not let her sew before that.

Mrs Edwards said she found sewing ‘‘quite easy'' to pick up and enjoyed working with her sewing machine. She said she wished other residents of Kimberley would take up sewing as well.

She was born in Mornington, Dunedin, and after she and her husband Colin were married they lived in Purakaunui, Karitane and Sawyers Bay, Dunedin, before settling in Palmerston.
