The cost of redeveloping Omarama's hall into a multipurpose centre, including medical services, should be known by the end of this year, with the Omarama Residents' Association asking construction companies to register an interest.
A concept plan was prepared earlier this year, which was outlined to the community for feedback then modified based on its suggestions before detailed plans were prepared.
Association chairman Bill Gordon said the alterations and additions would result in a community centre Omarama could be proud of and use with safety and convenience.
Once registrations of interest were received and tender prices in, just before or after Christmas, fundraising could start as the cost of the project would be known.
Preliminary inquiries showed there were promising sources of funds. The association had also been promised about $190,000 by the Waitaki District Council, from the sale of the town's medical centre.
The idea is to redevelop the hall so it gets greater use, including making provision for medical services.
