Event dates clash again

For the second year running a clash of dates looks likely between the Palmerston and Waihemo A & P show and the Waikouaiti rodeo, both major events in East Otago.

Both events are scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 4.

Last year, the clash of dates meant St John ambulance officers were not available at the Palmerston show to tend to an injured horse rider, A & P society president Gay Mills.

The show association had written to the National rodeo association asking that the date of the 2012 Waikouaiti rodeo be changed.

There was a need in an area the size of East Otago for both events to work together, she said.

However, Waikouaiti Rodeo Association president Richard Robinson of Dunback said the rodeo's date could not be changed without inconvenience to riders, sponsors and exhibitors.

Up to a few years ago the Palmerston show had been held in mid-January, and it was a pity the show had moved away from that date, he said.
