Paper and legal roads through rural land are shown by Walking Access' Otago Southland field adviser Noel Beggs (second from right) to (from left) Evelyn Taylor, of Tapui, Ray Fox, of Oamaru, and Bev Bagrie, of Mid Canterbury, at a Rural Women event at the North Otago A&P Showgrounds in Oamaru on Thursday.

The event marked the International Year of the Farming Family and attracted about 60 people.

The programme included presentations by Doug Avery on the journey of New Zealand farming families, Susie McKeague from the North Otago Irrigation Co, Katy Sanson from WorkSafe New Zealand, and John Redpath and Sarah Barr from Coach Approach on the transition to the next generation.

Performances by comic actresses the Bitches' Box and singer/songwriter Mel Parsons concluded the day.
