Burglars targeted an Oamaru commercial building on two consecutive nights this week, taking some items which had a personal and sentimental value to the premises' occupier.

Oamaru police Senior Constable Graeme McPherson said the Beal St workshop-garage was broken into on Wednesday night, but very little was taken.

However, it was burgled again on Thursday night, and this time almost $5000 worth of goods was taken.

Some items were of a distinctive nature and Snr Const McPherson hoped this would help identify the culprit.

They included a collection of about 50 very old comics, such as Richie Rich, and a collection of about 30 plastic kit model cars in 1920s and 1930s styles.

Anyone who saw any person with items like those should contact Oamaru police.

Other items taken were computer equipment, an eMachine computer, memory sticks and household items.

The complainant was ''very upset'' about the loss of some of the items, because of their ''personal and sentimental value'', Snr Const McPherson said.
