A newly formed society charged with playing a wide-ranging role in the Waitaki Valley has been set up.
The Waitaki Valley Community Society will take over from the Upper Waitaki Community Trust.
A public meeting will be held on August 12 in Kurow's Centennial Hall to discuss finances, make its proposals known and ask for ideas for community and economic development.
The society's aim is to truly reflect the area in which it works, as well as make it easier to access funding.
Various sub-groups have been formed by the executive committee to look after amenities, buildings and projects.
The chairwoman, Donna Smith, said the committee was focused on developing a strategic plan.
"The society is assets rich and cash poor, and ways of turning this around were considered," she said.
Some ideas were selling some assets, consolidating assets to fewer buildings, developing museums and involving the business community.
The structure set by the executive committee was:Chairwoman, Donna Smith; vice-chairman, James Meehan; treasurer, Ethel Gray; secretary, Kim Paterson; amenities, Jim Sutherland; buildings, Mr Meehan, John Sturgeon and Bob Watherston.
