The 130th anniversary of Hampden, at one time the smallest borough in New Zealand, will be celebrated in October.
It is 130 years since the proclamation of the borough in 1879.
It had 381 residents and measured 1.6 square km when it amalgamated with the Waitaki County Council in the 1960s.
The celebrations will be held over Labour Weekend.
The proclamation establishing the borough will be re-read by the MP for Waitaki, Jacqui Dean, on the Saturday, October 24.
The celebrations would include a market at the Hampden hall, a beach treasure hunt, a motorcycle race, and a dance in the hall, the spokesman for the district celebration group, Ken Bridge, said. A history and guide to Hampden is being prepared.
