No decision has yet been made on whether two historic lime kilns on an Enfield farm being converted to dairying should be rebuilt after the tops were removed.
Farming company Webster and Mitchell owned the property and had been told by the Waitaki District Council resource consent was not needed to remove the kilns.
However, one was built in 1898 and was automatically protected under the Historic Places Act as a structure built before 1900. The company stopped dismantling the kilns as soon as it was notified.
The Historic Places Trust said yesterday a site damage report was almost complete.
