The Labour Party is likely to announce its Waitaki MP candidate today, a Labour source says.
The candidate is expected to be Oamaru businesswoman Zelie Allan.
She would attempt to take the Waitaki seat from incumbent National Party MP Jacqui Dean. Mrs Dean wrested
the seat from Labour’s David Parker in the 2005 general election.
The Oamaru Mail reported earlier this year Mrs Allan ran two clothing businesses in Oamaru.
She competes in equestrian events locally and breeds paint horses.
The huge Waitaki electorate includes the towns of Roxburgh, Wanaka, Oamaru, Waimate, Lake Tekapo and Fairlie. The general election will take place on September 23.
