It took about seven hours and 946 lots yesterday to auction 45 years of antiques, collectables and other items owned by Evan Blair in his Oamaru antique shop, which closed on March 26.
Auctioneer Ron Proctor and his staff took bids on a variety of items which filled the Scottish Hall in Oamaru, attracting buyers from all around the South Island and many local people to whom Evan's Antiques had been an institution.
There were 283 registered buyers for the auction.
Items offered for sale ranged from two vehicles - a 1973 Morris van and 1937 Austin Ruby - to bubble-wrap, paper bags and paper.
Furniture, china, cutlery, jewellery, lamps, arts and shop fittings were all sold.
Parts of furniture, wood pieces and all the items needed to repair and restore antiques also went under the hammer.
Mr Blair started his antiques shop in 1969.
While he looks forward to retirement, including time spent at his holiday home in the Maniototo, Mr Blair plans to still "dabble just a wee bit" in antiques.
