Steampunk is taking Oamaru by storm.
The response to the second "Steampunk: Tomorrow As It Used To Be" exhibition at the Forrester Gallery had been "unprecedented", gallery director Warwick Smith said yesterday.
Since opening on October 23, the exhibition had attracted nearly 7000 visitors.
That surpassed last year's exhibition which attracted 6000 visitors and was the best attended in the gallery's history.
The "absolutely high point" was the influx of 1000 visitors on the day of the steampunk street party in lower Thames St.
Many mornings, there was a queue of people waiting for the gallery to open.
"It's just been huge. People are just loving it," Mr Smith said.
The exhibition, which features more than 100 artworks created by more than 40 artists, runs until December 5.
