A new principal has been appointed to the East Otago High School at Palmerston.

Rick Geerlofs (49) has been appointed principal of the year 7 to 13 school.

Mr Geerlofs has been deputy principal at Menzies College, in Wyndham, Southland, for 11 years. He is married with four adult children.

Mr Geerlofs and his wife Faye will move to Palmerston early in term two.

East Otago High was well equipped and well run and he did not expect to make any immediate changes, Mr Geerlofs said.

He was looking forward to starting work at the school.

Mr Geerlofs succeeds Tony Jenkins as principal at East Otago High School.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
