Just after 4pm, a possum was discovered sleeping in the North Otago Times honesty box.
Objecting to the paparazzi, as North Otago bureau chief David Bruce attempted to snap some photos of the animal, it took off north along Thames St to Farmers.
Farmers staff chased it around the department store for a short time before it escaped.
It was last seen up a tree in the lower Thames St centre parks.
