Entries are picking up for this year's Rainbow Run in Oamaru, but people are being urged not to wait until the last minute, with places limited to 1000.

More than 400 entries have been received already and Sport Waitaki co-ordinator Kate Holland expected that to really pick up in the lead-up

to the event on October 18, particularly once the school holidays ended.

Although entries would be taken on the day,

Miss Holland warned people they could miss out if all 1000 places had been filled.

Last year, people came from all over the South Island for the colour run at the Oamaru racecourse, including a very large contingent from Christchurch and Invercargill.

She was confident of getting 1000 for the event and said last year the 600 places were taken up quickly.

The run has no winners nor official times, but is a fun day out for individuals, families and groups.

It was also one way to encourage people into a healthy lifestyle, she said.

In the 5km run, walk or jog, people wear white and pass through five stations with different colours of powder that stick, creating an evolving artwork on their clothes.

Entry fees are $10 a person, or $30 for a family.
