Registrations for tomorrow's Rainbow Run in Oamaru are well ahead of last year's and Sport Waitaki co-ordinator Kate Holland expects almost all of the 800 places to be filled.
Yesterday, more than 500 registrations had been received and Miss Holland expects many more today.
''It's fantastic, incredible - way up on last year,'' she said.
''I can't believe how many we've got coming from out of town ... we've got at least 50 people.''
The weather forecast is for rain, but Miss Holland said that would just ''add to the fun''.
Online registrations close at 12pm today, but they can still be taken at the Waitaki Recreation Centre between 4pm and 7pm.
If spaces are left, registrations will be taken at the racecourse tomorrow, but Miss Holland warned people they could miss out.
The Rainbow Run will have the same format as in the past two years, in which people wearing white clothing will be covered in bursts of colour as they walk, jog or run around a 5km circuit at the Oamaru Racecourse.
The run had neither winners nor official times, but was a fun day out for individuals, families and groups, she said.
Miss Holland said after the success of Oamaru's first two Rainbow Run events, several other sporting bodies in the South Island had followed suit.
This could be the Rainbow Run's last year in its present format in Oamaru.
''We thought we'd give it three years in a row and see what people want, how people want it to be different, especially after other regions have taken on Rainbow Runs. We want to keep it fresh out here,'' she said.
''We'll look to spice it up next year.''
Tomorrow's Rainbow Run starts at 11am and participants should to be at the racecourse by 10.30am for a briefing.
