Rubbish bin costs studied

Maintaining rubbish bins at Hampden beach is not cheap.

Waitaki District Council recreation manager Eric van der Spek said in a report to the Waihemo Community Board meeting at Palmerston last month an additional bin at Hampden beach would cost $1212 to empty three times a week in summer and twice a week in winter.

In response, Waihemo Community Board chairman Rod Philip said the community board would investigate the issue further.

Board member Jack Lyford said some rubbish was "obviously household stuff'' and anyone caught dumping rubbish in the bin should be prosecuted.
