Seasons clash at park

Winter sport competes with summer sport at Centennial Park in Oamaru today when rugby and cricket codes clash.

First-class cricket returns when the Otago Volts take on the Auckland Aces at the Whitestone Contracting Stadium on Centennial Park in a one-day domestic competition match starting at 11am.

But the Otago Highlanders will also be at the park today between 10.30am and noon as a build-up to their first match in the 2010 Rebel Sport Super 14 season.

The Highlanders will hold an open training session, followed by a free barbecue lunch and autograph session for the locals from noon.

That will be followed by visits to primary and intermediate schools.

The team will be hosted by North Otago Rugby development managers Mike Mullins and Murray Linwood.

The Highlanders begin their 2010 campaign against the Crusaders on Saturday, February 13 in Christchurch, followed by a home fixture at Carisbrook against the Blues on Friday, February 19.
