A logging crew site near Gibson Rd, just north of Papakaio has been struck by thieves.
Senior Constable Bruce Dow, of Oamaru, said between April 7 and April 11, offenders or an offender, have entered the site and taken chainsaw fuel, engine oil, hydraulic fluid, chainsaw chains and bars.
He said there was no information available about the quantity or value of items taken, but he said a chainsaw bar cost about $80 and chains about $40.
He said about a month ago the same forestry crew had their chainsaws stolen.
"Since chainsaws have been invented they have been an item of hot property to steal no matter the make or the size.
"You won't find chainsaws in shops that aren't literally chained up.
He said in light of the theft people must take precautions and secure items of value.
Snr Const Dow said remoteness of a worksite could not be relied on as a security measure.
