Three wins for school

Three East Otago High School sports teams have won their respective grade competitions in senior hockey, senior basketball and junior hockey in a sporting trifecta in the last two weeks of the winter sporting season.

The Palmerston-based year 7 to year 13 high school, with fewer than 200 pupils, has competed successfully against teams from much larger Dunedin schools.

A "groundswell of support" from pupils, staff and parents had been a major factor in the excellent sporting results, said East Otago High School Principal, Rick Geerlofs.

Many parents and fellow pupils were supporting the school teams at matches played in East Otago and in Dunedin, he said.

The East Otago High School boys senior basketball team won their C grade final against Kings High School "Rookies" 45-39.

The East Otago High School senior hockey team won its C grade final against John McGlashan 2nd XI 6-0.

The East Otago junior year 7 and year 8 hockey team won their A grade final against Kavanagh Blue 3-1.
