Train trip fully booked

The winter may be the quiet season for tourists but this is not always the case on the Taieri Gorge Railway.

A day excursion train travelling from Dunedin to Palmerston and Oamaru on Saturday August 11, was booked out within three days of tickets going on sale, with 244 passengers. Taieri Gorge Railway marketing manager Barbara Reid said there was now a waiting list for the $40 seats on the train.

It departs Dunedin at 7.30am, will stop at Palmerston at 9am and reach Oamaru at 10.30am.

At Oamaru, passengers can visit a Kurow winery, take a bus tour around Oamaru and explore the historic precinct, including the steampunk displays.

The return train leaves Oamaru at 2.45pm and Palmerston at 3.45pm.
