The Wanaka Community Board can expect a strong turnout at its meeting in Albert Town this morning from members of the community concerned about the future of the town's library services.
One of those who organised a 100-strong turnout to last week's Queenstown Lakes District Council monthly meeting, Nicola Martinovich, said yesterday the protesters would be present for the board meeting and would take the opportunity to speak at the public forum.
The council is considering cuts to the number of librarians in Queenstown and Wanaka and changing the way the two libraries work so they provide additional council services.
Council staff had until today to respond to a draft consultation document suggesting the council could save $2 million to $3 million a year by cutting 42 of its 266 full-time-equivalent positions. Council chief executive Adam Feeley is due to present his decision on the restructuring on April 30.
