A free e-learning platform to upskill community and sporting groups and cultural organisations is being offered for at least the next year.

Using a model developed by Creative Waikato, regional arts organisation Three Lakes Cultural Trust and huddl, an initiative supporting community groups and charities, are offering the programme called The Learning Space.

It offers 10 three-hour workshops that can be divided into five-to-20-minute-long ‘chapters’.

Content includes governance, funding, health and safety, sustainability and climate change.

After organisations join, for free, they can work through the material at their own pace, individually or as a group.

Huddl project lead Fiona Reeve says "there are incredibly committed, passionate people supporting communities across the region, but access to professional development isn’t always equitable or affordable".

"By making the platform free and available 24/7, we’re helping level the playing field and empowering people with tools, confidence and strategies they can immediately apply to their projects, teams and networks.

"They can fit the workshops around their busy schedules — even if they just do 10 minutes a day — making it achievable for busy volunteers, board members, leaders and teams."

The one-year pilot’s being funded by the Department of Internal Affairs.
