The quaint and sage world of the BBC's popular television programme Antiques Roadshow will be skewered for laughs in an improvised comedy show in Arrowtown this month.

Antiques Rogue Show stars New Zealand actors and comedians Patrick Duffy and Greg Ellis, who invite members of the audience to bring along their family heirlooms for their "expert" opinion.

The two performers improvise on the mystery, history and likely value of the bric-a-brac in a manner which has no relevance to real history, or artistic appreciation, or any worthwhile knowledge whatsoever.

The pair will perform at the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall on August 25 as part of a 25-date national tour.

Arts On Tour NZ presents Antiques Rogue Show, in association with Creative New Zealand and the Southern Trust.

Arts On Tour general manager Steve Thomas, of Christchurch, said the performers dress and act like antique handlers and take notes on clipboards as audience members enter the hall with their treasures.

The pair return as antique experts and the two-hour comedy show begins.

Mr Thomas said people with any item which was unusual, or likely to raise a laugh, were encouraged to bring it along.

The audience was in for "many good deep belly laughs. These are two of the improvising actors in the country".

Antiques Rogue Show, Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall, Wednesday, August 25, 7.30pm. Admission $10 on the door.
