The South's film office chief says becoming the sole New Zealand representative on an influential global film organisation "extends the reach and ability to tap into the best practices of film offices around the world".

Film Otago Southland executive manager Kevin "KJ" Jennings, of Queenstown, has been appointed to the 2013 Association of Film Commissioners International board of directors.

The association is the official professional and educational organisation for regional and national film offices worldwide, with more than 300 member offices.

Association members assist feature film, television, commercial and stills production.

Mr Jennings and his 10 fellow international directors will meet three or four times a year to coincide with industry events.

"The other members are all people at the top of their game ... the appointment gives me the opportunity to work with them and get a handle on what the best film offices in the world are doing and how we can emulate them," he said.

"This is a real honour, I look forward to working with the AFCI board, but more than that I see this as a fantastic opportunity to promote the region and New Zealand in general to the wide range of contacts associated with the board."
