Big Break chance for young acts

Youth bands, duos and solo artists will perform in Wakatipu High School's new music auditorium for Big Break 2012 tonight.

The Fletcherz, Best Served Chilled, Alpine Effect, Without a Bass, Jack and the Boys, Smokescreen, the Collective Me, Sahara and Georgia, John and Susana, Ruby Bain, and Ngawai are the acts on the line-up to play their choice of originals and covers.

Organised by the Queenstown-based RockFormation charitable trust, Big Break 2012 aims to give young acts valuable experience playing before an audience ahead of performances for Mardi Gras in the Queenstown Winter Festival Smokefree Rockquest heat for Central Otago at the Lake Wanaka Centre on July 21.

Laughton Kora, of dub-roots rock band Kora, will lead a workshop for young musicians today.

Auditorium doors open at 5.30pm and the concert begins at 7pm. Entry by gold-coin donation.
