The final stage of the McChesney Bridge improvement is under way, Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Lane Vermaas says.
Mr Vermaas said the bridge, near Arthur's Point, was essentially completed two months ago and now the ski season had finished, work had resumed and contractors were waiting for a specialised machine.
The foam bitumen stabilising machine injects a mixture of hot water, bitumen and cement into the road.
A sealing layer needed warmer temperatures to ensure it would bind with a layer of stone applied to the surface.
Mr Vermaas said the bridge would be completed by the end of November and the 70kmh speed limit reinstated.
Work on a length of road from the Edith Cavell Bridge to the Shotover Lodge is due to be completed before Christmas.
