Changes to parking

A suite of changes to Wanaka's town centre parking restrictions has been approved by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

The changes had earlier been debated and approved by the Wanaka Community Board at a series of meetings in July, August and September.

A parking review took place in 2008, with public consultation, and a hearings panel presented a range of recommendations to address issues such parks being monopolised by skifield workers and all-day parkers, under-use of time-restricted parks, lack of short-stay parking at peak times, a lack of coach parking and illegal or inconsiderate parking of campervans.

Some of the most significant changes have occurred in lakeside parks on Ardmore St, where P120 restrictions have now been imposed.

A pamphlet outlining the changes is available from council offices.
