Children's cooking classes a hit

Arrowtown children brushed up on their kitchen skills at the Arrowtown Autumn Festival this week. Helen Reid from Eat to Live presented two sellout Make a Meal sessions for children.

In the cooking classes the children learned how to prepare, cook and serve a two-course meal from scratch.

Festival organiser Deborah Husheer said the classes would not have been possible without funding from SkyCity Queenstown Casino Community Trust.

The classes had been a popular feature of the festival since 2008, with the 2009 and 2010 classes selling out.

"The funds allowed us to pay a top-level presenter who has the ability to attract and engage the young participants as well as contributing to the associated costs of producing a quality event that gives local kids the opportunity to get creative in the kitchen," she said.

The trust had supported the Arrowtown Autumn Festival with contributions of more than $21,000 since 2004.

SkyCity executive manager Michelle Baillie said she was pleased to help the Arrowtown Autumn Festival because it was a popular celebration of the town's heritage and stunning autumn colours.

"The Arrowtown Autumn Festival is a superb event, which provides a wide variety of entertainment for people of all ages," she said.
