Consent sought for signs

Wanaka's largest retirement-village development is seeking resource consent for a long-term site for advertising signage at its Cardrona Valley Rd site.

Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village has had to reapply for consent to base two large real-estate signs for a period of five years to advertise sales of the development's planned 165 apartment villas.

The retirement village already has two advertising signs in place, but consent for a six-month period has lapsed and the developers need to reapply for consent under provisions in the Queenstown Lakes district plan.

The signs will be located on private land and primarily visible to vehicle traffic travelling on Cardrona Valley Rd and Golf Course Rd.

The district council has strict regulations covering the display and location of signage associated with business and retail shop-frontage.

The proposed real-estate signs will be "slightly larger" than is permitted under the district plan, and because of this, council regulatory authority Lakes Environmental has publicly notified the consent application.
