The annual six-day Wanaka-based Southern Lakes Festival of Colour will this year include Glenorchy in its touring programme for the first time.

The festival will include performances by the New Zealand Army Band, Ship Songs and the popular Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.

The festival, from April 28 to May 3, is a wide-ranging event spanning theatre, art, dance and music - from cabaret through to classical and jazz - and includes several world premieres, according to Victoria Murray-Orr of EveNZ in Wanaka.

Otago artist Grahame Sydney will launch the festival with a premiere of his documentary Dreaming of El Dorado, while New Zealand pianists Michael Houstoun and Diedre Irons will also premiere work.
