With no Winter Festival ball or jazz night this year, the June 1 ball would combine music, food and fabulous dress to form one "glamorous evening for locals", organiser Michelle Trapski said.
Ms Trapski and the Queenstown Lakes District Council are putting together the locals' ball this year in the hope of raising money for the Memorial Hall upgrade.
She and QLDC councillor Cath Gilmour said they hoped to put more than 50% of the $70 ticket revenue towards the upgrade.
"It's about the community and the community having a glamorous night with good food and good dancing, while, hopefully, raising some funds for a good cause too," said Cr Gilmour.
"It's a fine evening for a fine cause."
The ticket price will cover a complimentary glass of wine, canapes throughout the evening and entertainment by the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra, local band Master Blasters and a DJ later in the night.
Ms Trapski also hoped to provide a lounge room where people could relax throughout the evening to the sound of a pianist and crooners.
"Relax out in the lounge and party hard in the hall" would be the only theme of the night, as the organisers just want people to dress up in their finest clothes for a "good local get-together".
Ms Trapski said the night would be for all ages, as they aimed for a glitzy, glamorous and contemporary feel. To get the ball rolling, there would be a happy hour from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
"It's the glamour event of the year," Ms Trapski said.
The event would run for five and a-half hours from 7.30pm and should be seen as a good chance for a "locals' get-together", she said.
"My goal is to sell it out."
Organisers are linking up with the Queenstown Young Professionals after that organisation's ball was cancelled two weeks ago due to insufficient interest.
Tickets for the ball go on sale next Thursday.
