Indonesian dancers who flew to Queenstown on Friday perform the Bajidor Kahot dance of West Java during the inaugural Queenstown Indonesian Festival held at the Queenstown Memorial Centre on Saturday.
The event was organised in conjunction with the Indonesian Embassy in Wellington and the IMIQ, Association of Indonesian Community in Queenstown.
IMIQ spokesman Joyo Ajiman said the idea stemmed from a desire to introduce more people to Indonesian culture.
Queenstown, a globally diverse community, was a perfect place to do that, he said.
Along with a variety of food stalls and traditional costumes, attendees - including the Indonesian ambassador Jose Tavares - were treated to displays of traditional dance and music, including the sasando.
These dancers were among about seven, as well as some designers of batik fabric, who were flown in from Indonesia for the festival. Others had travelled from Wellington and Dunedin.
Mr Ajiman said he hoped it could become an annual event.
