Queenstown steel fabricator Paul Haswell’s running an online auction for the KidsCan charity for two sculptures he’s displaying at Frankton’s Country Lane.

The sculptures, ‘Rona’, top, and ‘Milky Way’, below, result from a children’s ‘Night Skies’ drawing competition run by his business, Hazweld Bespoke Steel Fabrication, in conjunction with Queenstown council’s libraries.

‘Rona’ was drawn by Harper Wedd, 11, who won the 5-to-11 age group category, and ‘Milky Way’ was drawn by Amelia Black, 12, who won the 12-to-18 age group category.

Haswell created the sculptures using scrap metal from his workshop.

‘Milky Way’ incorporates a handmade, steel milk carton.

The online auction closes June 13. — Philip Chandler
