The Southern division of the 2012 Junior Interfield Series will begin this Saturday at Coronet Peak.
Snow Sport New Zealand director of sports development and coaching Adam Dooney said entry was open to skiers and boarders aged between 6 and 16, starting at entry level.
"It's only $15, which is fantastic. We are trying to keep it at that level so people get in there and have a go."
He said the race course would feature a giant slalom layout, meaning the distance between gates was greater than slalom but less than super giant slalom.
"It's a technical race versus a speed race."
Skiers could participate on any number of days and could register on the day or before.
Points were allocated per race to calculate the overall results.
After this Saturday, the next race will be at Treble Cone, on August 14, then the Remarkables, on August 26, and Cardrona, September 9.
