The centre has been linked to the five-year-old Robertson block and will seat a maximum of 120 people.
Board of trustees member Greg Turner said the building had been a seamless transition and would be a welcome addition to a school which placed great emphasis on extracurricular activities.
"Wakatipu has grown organically from a little rural school to this."
The new block contains an acoustic-rated music theatre and a drama theatre as well as four rehearsal rooms (wired for recording), a band room, a lecture room, a grand entrance way, storage rooms and changing rooms.
Mr Turner said pupils would be able to utilise the facility as a communal and educational space.
While the 580sq m block would be a "multipurpose" centre for the pupils, the school would also invite the community to make use of it.
"There will be community opportunities. The school's part of the community and the community is part of the school."
The facility would be used for smaller productions because the school hall seats a further 180 people.
The first outside school use will be on May 7 when the Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly meeting.
"It will be a good chance to show off the facility to the business communities out there."
While the centre was government funded, the school would look to fundraise to fill the interior with instruments, seating and anything else required that fell outside the ministry's funding umbrella.
