The anticipation is building for the arrival of the Original Wailers, the world-class roots rock reggae musicians who will perform songs from the classic Bob Marley album Exodus.

Vocalist-guitarists Junior Marvin and Al Anderson toured and recorded with Marley until his death in 1981.

The pair, who are working with eight other musicians, begin their four-venue tour of New Zealand with two performances at Queenstown's Memorial Hall next week.

They will arrive in Queenstown after performing in the United Kingdom, the United States and Madagascar.

The band will perform the classic 1977 record Exodus, Time magazine's album of the 20th century.

Revolver owner John Stapleton, who is promoting the concerts, said ticket sales - limited to 550 for each concert - were picking up quickly.

The Original Wailers "are the most prominent reggae band in the world and to make it into the band, you've got to be the best. For people to see them in New Zealand and this far south, it's probably a once in a lifetime opportunity".

"We're privileged to have them and I hope Queenstown supports it because we don't get that many international acts down here."

Rhythmonyx, Junglefari, Fat Eddie and Taos Sound System will perform in support support.

• The Original Wailers perform Exodus at the Queenstown Memorial Hall, Tuesday, November 17, and Wednesday, November 18, at 8pm.

Limited tickets are $65 plus booking fee and are available from Quest stores, i-Sites in Queenstown and Wanaka and Ticketdirect.co.nz.

Revolver will host an after-party, featuring AKIL and MC (Jurassic 5), at 11.30 each night. Tickets are $15.
