Subculture co-owner-operator Antonia Crowley prepares her "wild NZ piko piko" cocktail, which could give the country worldwide exposure in the next Russian Standard Vodka cocktail book. Photo by James Beech.
Miss Crowley said she invented a roasted tamarillo and watercress cocktail for a vodka product launch in September.
"Wild NZ piko piko" used the same vodka and incorporated the all-season edible baby tree-fern frond, she said.
The cocktail was inspired by New Zealand bush ingredients that grow in native subtropical forest.
The ingredients include 45ml of vodka, vanilla-roasted wild blackberries, vanilla sugar, lime wedges and cloudy apple juice.
Miss Crowley's chilli tequila chocotini cocktail appears in The Great New Zealand Cocktail Book, released this month.
The $17 piko piko cocktail will be available at Subculture from this weekend.
